Tropical Smoothie

1 cup 1% milk (3)
1/2 6oz container 2% pineapple Chobani greek yogurt (2)
1 banana (0)
4 strawberries, frozen (0)
1/3 cup mango sorbet, I used Ciao Bella brand (3)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.

Yield: 1 | 8p+

I made this smoothie as a mid day snack, and I will have to say it is quite large for a mid day snack. I probably could have split it with someone. But it is so good, that will most likely not happen. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Smoothie

1 cup 1% milk (3)
1/4 cup canned pumpkin pie mix (2)
1 banana (0)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)
2T rolled oats - uncooked (1)
3 ice cubes (0)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.

Yield: 1 | 8p+

Note: I used canned pumpkin pie mix here instead of plain canned pumpkin because I knew it would have a better taste, however, if you want to use plain canned pumpkin (for 0 p+) try adding in a tsp of pumpkin pie spice (0) then you can get the same taste for 2 less p+!!

1/3 cup FF vanilla yogurt (1)
1 handful, about 1 cup, packed spinach (0)

See, I am finally posting some smoothies with veggies as promised. I have to give some credit to my sister on this one. She used Trop50 orange juice in place of milk and hers was equally delicious. You can make the executive call on that one. Thanks sis!

Cherry Cheesecake Smoothie

Well, I would first like to start off with some awesome news! I follow a blog called Emily Bites it is an awesome sight with tons of delicious recipes, she is also a part of Weight Watchers and also posts all of the points+ values for her foods. Trust me though, if you are not a Weight Watcherer her food is still delicious and something everyone will absolutely love. So I told you that story to tell you this story. I was perusing Emily Bites one day and noticed she was doing a giveaway in corroboration with Del Webb. They were giving away a free, ya FREE, Kitchenaid Cooks for the Cure blender. I of course entered the contest and low and behold I was the WINNER!!! Seriously most awesome thing I have ever won. I think Emily was correct when she said it must be fate that I won since I have a smoothie blog! Isn't she gorgeous. I think I will call her Rosie :) So I had to test that puppy out and here is what I came up with for today --

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1/3 cup FF vanilla yogurt (1)
1/3 package fat free, sugar free cheesecake pudding mix (0)
1 1/2 (or 3 squares) graham crackers (1)
1/2 cup frozen cherries (0)
2 ice cubes (0)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.

Yield: 1 | 4p+

Note: I made this as an afternoon snack today, not as a meal. Therefore, I didn't add the protein powder simply because I didn't want to add the extra points. It is mine and my boyfriends 4 year anniversary today so I am splurging on dinner and need to save all the points I can.

Enjoy, and thanks again to Emily Bites

Pineapple Cherry Smoothie

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1/2 2% pineapple Chobani greek yogurt (2)
1 banana, frozen (0)
1/2 cup pineapple, canned in juice (0)
1/3 cup cherries, frozen (0)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)
1/4 cup water (if needed)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth. If ingredients are not blending well try adding in the water to see if that will do the trick. I added the water to mine, but some of you may not have to, especially if you are using a non-frozen banana instead.

Yield: 1 | 6p+

**Spoiler alert: I just bought a big bag of nectarines, should take 3 or 4 days to ripen, nectarine smoothies are on the way!!!

Chocolate Almond Smoothie

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1 banana, fresh or frozen (0)
1/2 tsp almond extract** (0)
1 scoop low cal chocolate protein powder (2)
4 ice cubes (0)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.

Yield: 1 | 4p+

** seriously only use 1/2 tsp, this stuff is strong!

This smoothie was awesome this morning! And seriously, only 4 points+, that rocks. I am going grocery shopping this weekend and I plan on getting some more flavors of pudding mix and doing some more experimenting with those flavors. I also see a peppermint patty smoothie in my future!

I ordered 4 1/2 pounds of protein powder and the New Rules of Lifting for Women book from amazon on Wednesday. They probably think I am some kind of body builder, haha. I got 2 pounds each of French Vanilla and Double Chocolate (!) and 1/2 pound of Vanilla Almond all Designer Whey brand.

1/2 cup blackberries, fresh or frozen (0)
1/3 cup cherries, frozen (0)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)
3 ice cubes (0)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.

Yield: 1 | 5p+

This smoothie tasted an awful lot like my smoothie from yesterday. Don't get me wrong it was delicious but I wish you could taste the cherry more. And I forgot a banana. It was a weird morning. Expect better from me tomorrow. I will come up with something uber delicious, promise :)

Blackberry Blueberry Banana Smoothie

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1/2 cup blackberries (0)
1/3 cup blueberries (0)
1/3 cup FF vanilla yogurt (1)
1/2 banana(0)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)
3 ice cubes**

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend until smooth.

Yield: 1 | 5p+

** Note: I was lucky enough to get out yesterday and pick fresh blackberries, so since they were not frozen I opted to use a few ice cubes for a colder smoothie. If you use frozen blackberries you can definitely omit the ice cubes, the rest of the ingredients remain the same.

So how awesome of a color does this one have?!? And it was amazingly delicious.

Banana Cream Pie Smoothie

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1/3 cup FF vanilla yogurt (1)
1 banana, frozen or not (0)
1/4 package FF SF banana cream pie pudding mix (0)
1tsp vanilla (1)
1 1/2 (3 squares) graham crackers broken up  (1)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.

Yield: 1 | 7p+

I doubled this recipe this morning, like I do most mornings actually, and gave the other half to my boyfriend. He took one drink and said this is his favorite one I have made so far! The graham crackers are not in the original picture because I had that stroke of genius after I had already taken the first one. Do add the graham crackers, for only 1p+ the texture and deliciousness they add is totally worth it! Enjoy :)

A little weight update:
So I don't know if my scale is messing with me or what is happening but after a 2.6 pound gain last week I dropped 7.6 lbs on the scale this morning. I have been making really good food choices lately and I have been at a plateau for about a month so I think all my hard work finally caught up with me! I am going to go to the gym this weekend and a couple times next week to ensure these pounds stay off. Total weight loss to date: 32.2 pounds!!!! Just 17.8 pounds til goal, woooooooo!!!!!!!!!

Yield: 1 | 9p+

I have been reading this book and in the book these starving kids find an entire train car full of Nutella, so it has been on my mind lately. I love the delicious chocolatey goodness of Nutella so much I decided it would make an excellent smoothie, and I was right. I sucked this one down in about 20 minutes this morning, this is a must try!

I am however, going to use this time away to come up with some new ideas. I really want to start incorporating new ingredients. I think some citrus zest and maybe even some vegetables might be on the menu for when I return so please, come on back!

Pineapple, Peach, Strawberry, Banana Smoothie

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1/3 cup FF vanilla yogurt (1)
1/4 cup peaches, frozen (0)
1/4 cup pineapple, frozen (0)
3 strawberries, frozen (0)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)
Just less than 1/3 cup water (0)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.

Yield: 1 | 5p+

This one is really good. I added the few strawberries for just a little color but you if you wanted to do just banana, peach, pineapple that would be equally delicious. You see I got my awesome new smoothie cup!! It is so cute but it is not insulated so the cup was a little wet by the time I got to work (I have a 1 hour commute to drink my smoothie each morning). Small price to pay for cuteness I guess.

My Weight Loss Journey

Well, I mentioned Weight Watchers and that I have been doing it for a while now so I figured I would let you see the progress I have made so far. The first picture was taken on New Year's Eve (the date stamp is a day off) and the last picture was taken on the 4th of July. I am just over 1/2 way to goal, 23 pounds to go til I get to a healthy weight for my height.

Beginning weight: 186.4
Current weight: 159.2
Goal Weight: 136
Height: 5'2"

This is no doubt my smoothie blog but I wanted you all to know why I am doing this blog and why I am choose a healthy nutritious breakfast each and every morning :)

Blackberry Peach Smoothie

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1/3 cup FF vanilla yogurt (1)
1/3 cup blackberries, frozen (0)
1/2 cup peaces, frozen (0)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth.
Mine came out just fine with this amount of soy but if you hear your blender struggling, please do not blow your motor, add a 1/4 cup water - that should help it right along.

Yield: 1 | 5p+

This is one of the prettiest smoothies I have made so far.

Last night I attempted a chai smoothie. It did not turn out so well. I am going to keep trying to get that one right though because I love chai and I think a chai smoothie would be an awesome morning pick-me-up. I will keep experimenting with that one and be sure to keep you posted. Happy Blending!

Peach Cherry Smoothie

1 cup light plain soy milk (2)
1/2 cup cherries, frozen (0)
1/2 cup peaches, frozen (0)
1 frozen banana (0)
1/2 cup FF vanilla yogurt(2)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder (2)
1/4 cup water (0)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown and blend til smooth!

I had this as part of my lunch today instead of breakfast since I was on the run, very delicious and very filling.

Tropical Smoothie

2 cups soy milk (6)
1 package Yoplait smoothie - mango, pineapple, strawberry flavor (4)
1/2 cup extra pineapple (0)
4 extra strawberries (0)
2 scoops vanilla protein powder (4)
1/4 cup water (0)

Layer first 5 ingredients in blender and blend up. My blender needed a little more liquid to work properly so I added 1/4 cup water to get it moving again.

Yield: 2 | 7p+ per smoothie.

Note: the Yoplait smoothe packet is 4p+ which is the amount of points for the entire package. These packages contain not only the fruit but also yogurt chunks that get mixed into the smoothie during blending. I would estimate that if you didn't want to count the points for the fruit in the packet it would be about 2p+ rather than 4 bringing the total p+ per smoothie to 6.

Smoothie Accessories

I just found and purchased an adorable new travel cup for my smoothies Check it out here! I bought one in purple and one in orange, I couldn't decide on a color so I had to get both. Aaaannnd then of course if you spend $25 you get free shipping so I had to buy this as well for my desk. I needed it, I really don't drink enough water. Oh online shopping you will be the death of me.

As for the blender I use, well I have this champ that I purchased about 4 years ago, it still works like a charm and if I hadn't lost the blade to the food processor part I am sure that would still work well, too.
Side note: I had my smoothie at 8am and it is now 12:50pm and I am finally ready for lunch. I ate 16 RF wheat thins like an hour ago (WW really has helped me with my portion control, before I would have probably eaten like 1/2 a box) and I am just now hungry enough for lunch. My stomach just growled. I wish I had a blender at work, now that would be awesome... but such is life.

Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie

1 1/2 cups light plain silk soy milk (3)
1/2 cup pineapple chunks, frozen. (0)
5 strawberries, frozen (0)
1 banana (0)
1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder, I use Deisgner Whey (2)

Layer in blender in order shown and blend it up til smooth.

Yield: 1 |  5p+

Note: I cut up a pineapple and some strawberries over the weekend and froze them in individual baggies in perfect smoothie porportions, but, if you are not as organized (okay obsessive), you can definitely add some canned pineapple and fresh strawberries then throw in like 4 or 5 ice cubes. Will totally come out equally delicious.

Also Note: While I make each of my smoothies 1 serving you can totally split this with someone. I only have a 16oz smoothie bottle so there is usually some excess left over that I leave for my boyfriend to have for breakfast, he gets nearly 12 ozs. So these smoothies are big, I mean they are supposed to be like an entire meal though sooo.... I think I am going to amazon a totally cute new smoothie cup right now to pose in all my pictures. I will post whatever I find.

Vanilla Cheesecake Smoothie

1 1/2 cups light plain soy milk (3)
1 frozen banana (0)
1 tsp vanilla extract (0)
1/8 tsp cinnamon (0)
1/4 package FF SF cheesecake flavor instant pudding mix (0)
4 ice cubes (0)

Layer ingredients in blender in order shown. Blend until smooth.

Yield: 1 | 3p+ (note I split this one in 2 since it was dessert. If making this for breakfast add 1 scoop low cal vanilla protein powder bringing the p+ to 5).

Smoothie Basics

I figured I should start with the basics of smoothie making. I like most of my smoothie recipes to have a few main parts.

1. liquid: I use light plain soy most of the time but I think I need to branch out and plan to give almond milk a shot to see how that goes and maybe even juice if I am feeling particularly frisky. (you will get at least 1 serving of dairy in each of my smoothie recipes though be it from the milk or the yogurt)

2. fruit: I mean it is a smoothie not a milk shake, it needs to carry at least some nutritional value. (you will get at least one and most likely 2 servings of fruit in my smoothie recipes, I plan to incorporate vegetables into my concoctions later down the line)

3. protein: I get a ton of protein from the greek yogurt I use but I like to amp that up with the protein powder in most of my recipes, and I plan to buy the WW smoothie packets and try those out as well. (I just like the protein because it really helps to keep me full for much longer, I usually eat a small snack around 10am and that will carry me through to lunch)

Those are my main rules of smoothie making: liquid, fruit, and protein. Now as we all know, rules are meant to be broken so if heaven forbid one day I post a recipe that does not contain all of these things no one call in the men in the white uniforms, I promise you I have not lost my marbles — it is called experimenting!!!

So I am sure you noticed the uses of WW and p+, that is Weight Watchers and Points Plus. I am currently on a weight loss journey and I am sure some of that will bleed into my blog regularly. For anyone checking out this site who is not on WW, please no mind the smoothies are undeniably delicious. Blend one up and see for yourself.
